Is the Nutrisystem Diet a Good Value?
Admittedly, there are a lot of similarities between Nutrisystem and similar meal replacement plans. There are several diets on the market which focus on a favorable glycemic index. Many make admirable attempts to offer meals that don't taste like or aren't typical of diet foods. Some of them also offer comfort and snack type foods as well as desserts. So, the deciding factor for many consumers is cost and value. People often ask me whether Nutrisystem is a decent value. I'll crunch some numbers and explore this issue further in the following article.
I Believe That, For The Most Part, Nutrisystem Is Competitively Priced: The base price of a monthly package is around $10 per day or about $300 per month. This is true of the basic, vegetarian, silver, and diabetic plans. There is a cheaper plan (the flex plan) and a more expensive option (the select plan,) but most of the options run around $2.50 per meal before coupons and just over $2 per meal after. This price is cheaper than some of its competitors, especially when you consider the coupons.
Membership Fees Or Joining Costs: With Nutrisystem, you're only paying for the food that you're going to eat. Once you sign up on the website (which is free,) you're automatically a member and you don't have to pay anything for this. Other diets charge membership fees or additional charges based on how much weight you lose. Admittedly, these fees often aren't significant. But this is another way that this diet differs from some others in terms of pricing and cost.
But, What About The Counseling?: It's not uncommon for people tell to tell me that they think that other diets cost more than this one because of the counseling. There are similar diets where you meet one on one each week with a counselor. The perception is that there are additional costs because you're getting more support. The thing is, Nutrisystem also offers counseling. Granted, it's not face to face. But, it can occur as often as you like for whatever reason that you might need it. They offer online, email, or telephone counseling. They also have weekly chats and classes that offer support also.
Whether you need the face to face counseling or not really does depend on your personality. Some people feel that they really need this and others don't want this type of pressure or requirement.
So Is Nutrisystem A Good Value?: The answer to this question is truly going to depend on the person who is being asked. In my opinion, the cost of this plan is very competitive when compared to others and since I'm pretty introverted, I don't see the need to pay extra for counseling, but I realize that some people disagree with me.
In truth, the diet plan that is the best value for you is going to be the one that you stay on for long enough for you to be successful and happy with your results. Because if you get lackluster results and don't stick with it, the money is wasted anyway. At the end of the day, the best value for you is usually just a matter of deciding which one fits your personality and comfort level the best.
