The Price of Jenny Craig Per Week Vs The Price of Nutrisystem Per Week
I'm often asked to compare these two diets. And there are two areas that people tend the focus on in terms of the questions that they ask. These areas are cost and effectiveness. The other day, I had someone ask me if there was any difference in the cost of Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig if you were figuring this out on a weekly costs. There actually is a difference and I will discuss it in the following article.
Membership Or Joining Fees (Only One Of These Diets Has Them:) Jenny Craig does charge for more than their food. This isn't usually a huge amount of money, but it is there. You've probably seen their ads which offers something like $30 for three months or 20 pounds for $20. I think they charge this because they do offer face to face counseling. Nutrisystem doesn't have this. You basically pay for the foods that you're going to eat or buy and counseling takes place on the phone or online which saves some money.
Figuring Out The Weekly Cost Of Jenny Craig And Nutrisystem: To be fair, I have to disclose that my experience is with Nutrisystem. And, for the most part, the cheapest way (by far) to buy this is as part of a package. But, since we're talking about weekly cost, they do offer a weekly package which I will use for this article. You basically chose 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 dinners, and 7 each of snacks and desserts. This works out to be about $98 before shipping. And, this does work out to be more than you would pay for a week of the monthly $298 basic package which lasts for roughly a month.
Figuring this out is harder with Jenny Craig because they don't really offer the neat and tidy packages. You go to one of their centers and hand pick your foods, which are priced individually. The prices are pretty steep. To try and compare, I basically went and selected a day's worth of foods similar to the Nutrisystem foods I chose. Here's what the costs were: banana muffin = $2.19; chicken soup = $4.99; chicken fettuccine = $6.99; popcorn $1.99; and chocolate mint bar $1.99. The total for the day is $18.19 which would take you to $127.05 for the week.
Evidence That Jenny Craig Costs More Per Week Than Nutrisystem: This correlates what I have read in Forbes magazine which estimated that Jenny was about $25 more expensive each week. (My calculations came up with about a $28 dollar difference, but that's pretty close.) And this was before we even added the membership fees. If you look at this on a monthly basis, you're probably looking at a $100 difference. That becomes potentially significant when you look at it yearly terms.
Plus, you are often handsomely rewarded by ordering Nutrisystem as part of a monthly package. As I said, it runs $298 for the whole month and this is before coupons. So if you take advantage of this, the cost or price difference becomes even more pronounced.
