The Medifast program has been proven to effectively help a person lose those unwanted pounds. This is what keeps attracting people to the diet, as it promises results in a very short period of time. One of the dangers of being on the Medifast diet is that it is a very low calorie diet regimen that is formulated to help a person lose the most amount of weight possible in the shortest period of time. This diet is combination of pre-packaged meals and shakes that you are supposed to eat at designated times throughout the day. The total calorie intake can range from 450-500 calories a day. This can be quite extreme if you are a large person and you normally take in 2000 or more calories a day. While the diet promises that you will not feel hungry you can be assured that in the first week you will feel hungry all of the time. You need to give your body time to adjust the dramatic change and after the first week you should feel better throughout the day.

There are a number of medical professionals that feel that this is not a good diet plan to follow as it borders on fasting and people should not fast for an extended period of time. If you are thinking about taking part in this diet plan than you should consult your physician to make sure that you are able to handle that much of a decrease in calories. Also, while on the diet you should have regular checkups to make sure that you are staying healthy while losing weight.

Some of the mild problems that people have experienced while on this programs are mild lightheadedness and dizziness, headaches, constipation and a low tolerance for colds. People have reported that while on this diet they often felt sick. However, these symptoms do lessen over time.
