Diet Plans We Should Be Embarrassed to Consider
You want to lose weight. You're not alone, obviously. Millions of people are looking for ways to slim down and their reaching out for just about any idea they haven't heard before. If you have a new scheme to help people to lose weight--or an old one with a new name, for that matter--you have an extremely marketable product. Our hunger for diet plans is secondary only to our hunger for the fatty foods that contribute to unhealthy weight gain.
Chances are that you already know what it takes to lose weight. You need to reduce your caloric intake and you need to increase the amount of calories you burn. You need to do that in a way that allows you to meet all of your nutritional needs. Put into the simplest of terms, you need a healthy diet and exercise.
That's not revolutionary. The truth isn't always novel, though. We all understand, intellectually, what we really need to do. Yet silly starvation and fad diets continue to gain adherents and they sell like crazy. People are more than happy to experiment with weight control solutions that are nothing short of laughable.
There are some people who fall for the horribly presented pseudo-science of television commercials and print ads. There are those who don't understand how things really work and can't differentiate between real diet plans and sheer silliness. Most of us, however, don't have the excuse we know better than to even consider these plans, yet we remain tempted again and again to try them.
So why are so many of us suckered in by silly diet plans we should be embarrassed to consider?
Part of it is purely a matter of wishful thinking. We'd like to believe there's an easier way to lose weight, so we're willing to entertain diet plans that make even the most outlandish claims. The idea of eating right and working out just isn't as attractive as believing that drinking this juice or taking that pill will suddenly leave us svelte.
Another reason why we often embrace these fad diets is impatience. When we decide to lose weight, we want to see big results and we want to see them in a hurry. We could drop a pound or so per week with a smart approach, but there's something so attractive about the idea of losing dozens of pounds in record time--even if we know the plan isn't sustainable or healthy.
Do you need to get into better shape? If so, do what you really need to do. Take a smart approach based on your own knowledge and the undeniable nature of reality. Don't embarrass yourself with bogus dead-end diet plans. You know better!
