How to Start a Healthy Diet
Have you ever found yourself in a situation whereby you want to take initiative and action immediately, but just clueless as to how to start doing it? Without proper guidance and resources, you won't have the motivation to start taking action.
This problem persists a lot in people who are always saying that they ought to start dieting to lose weight, but end up shelving the whole idea and gaining more weight. It's easy to say that you want to start dieting and losing weight, but it's another matter to actually do it and maintain it as a lifestyle. Dieting is not some temporary activity that promises permanent results, but a lifelong experience that conditions the body to shift its behaviour from the old habits to the new ones.
If you find it hard to start with a dieting regime, then you should start out doing little bits of adjustments to your lifestyle. Here are some examples:
1) Do away with snacking. The three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are all you need for the whole day. If you find an urge to go for a short snack or some afternoon tea, tell yourself that the next meal is approaching. For example, you wish to snack at 3pm, so tell yourself that dinner is coming in about 3 hours' time, and that you can tolerate it until then.
2) Reduce food portions in your meals. If your serving is more than your body would ever need, it's time to cut down. For starters, try to reduce your portions by half and see if your body can adjust to this reduced intake of food. In the end, it's the conditioning of the brain that affects everything, not the body's desire for more food.
3) Walk more often. Many people dislike running, so walking is a better alternative. As walking uses up lesser energy than running, it must be a lifestyle that will accompany you for the next few years or decades. If you are the type that just wants to take a bus or cab to travel to a place that is within walking distance (e.g 2 miles away), it's time to walk there instead. If you are a natural explorer, then you'll find walking an exciting element in life.
4) Replace all drinks with plain water only. With the exception of drinks like milk, there is no need to quench your thirst or replenish the water in your body with sugary carbonated soft drinks. Water is abundant everywhere, so it's a matter of having a water bottle with you to provide all you need. In fact, carbonated drinks account for more than 50% of obesity rates, so it's a very good start to abstain from them.
5) Sleep early. Many people love to stay awake until the wee hours of the morning, then find themselves having to eat extra food to keep themselves awake and energetic. This is not necessary if you can push yourself to sleep early. After all, your body needs rest, so don't torture yourself by staying awake until so late.
If you are serious about losing weight, then you should start adjusting your lifestyle bit by bit within a short period of time. Do not delay and revert to your old habits, because that would only destroy whatever effort you have put in. Find the secret tip of a healthy diet and you'll be enjoying a fruitful life ahead.
